A Thousand Shall Fall Review Part 2!

A Thousand Shall Fall by Andrea Boeshaar

Book Description:
A Thousand Shall Fall: A Civil War Novel (Kregel, November 2015)

A story of love, hope, and healing set in the midst of the Civil War

Nineteen-year-old Carrie Ann Bell is independent and spirited. The only thing she really fears are the Union soldiers fighting against her Confederate friends. When her youngest sister runs away from home, brave Carrie Ann is determined to find her and bring her back. Disguised as a soldier, she sets off---only to find she's fallen into the hands of the enemy.

Her childhood friend Confederate Major Joshua Blevins has warned her against these Yankees: they're all devils, ready to inflict evil on unsuspecting young women. When Colonel Peyton Collier arrests her for her impersonation of an officer, it seems to confirm all her fears.

Soon, though, she finds herself drawn to the handsome, gallant colonel. He rescued her, protected her, and has been every inch the gentleman. Carrie Ann discovers that her foe has become her ally---and more than that, someone she could love. But the arrival of Joshua in the Union camp as a spy will test her loyalties. Will she protect someone who has been like family or be loyal to this stranger to whom she wants to offer her heart? When her world is being torn apart around her, whom should she trust?

Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, A Thousand Shall Fall is framed around compelling characters and a very romantic setting in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Andrea Boeshaar's extensive research guarantees historical accuracy and romance genre enthusiasts and Civil War buffs alike will enjoy the Christian perspectives on actual historical events.

My Opinion:
What a read!  There where a few things that I think could've/should've been different especially towards the end.  And there where a few things I had some problems with, but Carrie's spunkiness made up for some of it!  I just love her as a character, really I love the majority of these characters!  I'm interested in seeing what else happens in their lives.  Overall I think this is an interesting and entertaining read, but still wish things towards the end had been different.

ABOUT The Steadfast Love SERIES

In 16th-century Europe, the Reformation rages between Protestants and Catholics. Gwyneth, half-Dutch, flees from England to Holland to escape the man who murdered her parents. When he follows her there and insists he came to rescue her, will she trust this man called Dirk? When tragedy strikes, will their steadfast love erode?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Times gone by snatch Rachelle Rea Cobb close, so she reads and writes about years long ago--her passions include the Reformation, Revolutions, and romance. Rachelle wrote the Steadfast Love series during college. Five months after she graduated, she signed a three-book deal with her dream publisher, WhiteFire. She's a homeschool grad, Oreo addict, and plots her novels while driving around her dream car, a pick-up truck. In June 2016, she married a man with the same name as her fictional hero, and they live happily ever after in Small Town, South. She is also the author of Write Well, a guide for writers, which released on March 4th!

Q&A:

1. When and where did you first get the idea for the Steadfast Love Series?

A song I was listening to on the radio inspired the title of the first book. So I wrote Diamonds, but when I finished it, I realized to my great frustration that the characters weren’t done with their story, even though I had been quite adamant that I would write a stand-alone novel. But the story wasn’t finished, so I kept writing.

2. Readers often pick out favorite quotes from a novel. Do you have a favorite of your own from The Sound of Silver?

Yes! In fact, my friend Mindy, a calligrapher, even created a beautiful piece of art from one of my favorite quotes: “Within the pages of books one’s heart can be revealed.”

3. Can you tell us what first drew you to writing Inspirational Historical Romance?

My first exposure to the genre came when I read Heartsong Presents novels when I was twelve. Those small books introduced me to how much I believe in the power of story, especially love stories set in times gone by.

4. I saw on your website that you also write reviews, articles and offer editing services. What's one of your favorite things beyond writing novels that you enjoy?

Editing is such fun! I daresay I enjoy editing a page full of my own (or others’!) words just as much as I enjoy splashing words onto a blank page. I recently released my first nonfiction book, Write Well, which is a short ebook designed as a guide writers!

Love Comes Calling Review!

Love Comes Calling  by Siri Mitchell

Book Description:
18008073
A girl with the best of intentions.
A heart set on Hollywood.
An empty pocketbook.
That's all it takes for Ellis Eton to find herself working as a telephone operator for a look-alike friend. For Ellis, this job will provide not only acting practice but the funds to get her a start in the movies. She's tired of always being a disappointment to her traditional Boston family, and though she can't deny the way he makes her head spin, she knows she's not good enough for Griffin Phillips, either.

It's simple: avoid Griff's attentions, work, and get paid. But in typical Ellis fashion, her simple plan spirals out of control when she overhears a menacing phone call...with her very own Griff as the target.

With an endearing heroine as her lead, Siri Mitchell takes readers on a madcap tale
of love and discovering one's true desires!

My Opinion:
A truly fun read! I just love Siri's books and, like this one, usually devour them! LOL!  Ellis is such a funny character!  I LOVED her!  She is totally spastic and yet completely lovable!!!  Highly misunderstood her family drove me a little nuts with their opinions of her.  But then there's Griff [deep swooning sigh ;) ]; he has got to be one of the best guys I've read about in a while!  Or if not, he has made me forget the recent ones! LOL!  He is so good!!!!  There's no way Ellis' heart or mine stands a chance when he starts to speak! :D   This is a completely entertaining and highly funny read, with a dash of conspiracy!  I really wanted more faith scenes though, the moments God is mentioned I gobbled up I just wanted more!  I also wish the story had gone a little father than it did; there were somethings I felt where left hanging when the book ended.  I absolutely loved all the interesting historical details and opinions.  Especially Siri's Author's notes and piece on Prohibition in the back.  This book had a touch of almost everything for me, sad moments, mystery, interesting historical details, explanations of switch boards in clear detail, roll on the floor funny scenes, fabulous characters, and much more!  I recommend this read! :)

Pursued Review!

Pursued by Lisa Harris

Book Description:
30259134Nikki Boyd's flight into Nashville was routine--up until the crash landing at the airport. When the dust settles, Nikki discovers that the woman who had been seated next to her on the plane is missing--and no one will admit she was ever there. Erika Hamilton had been flying to Nashville with an air marshal as a key witness in an upcoming grand jury trial. When she flees from the crash, is she running from trouble or straight into it? Before Nikki can even see her family, she and her team are pulled into a missing persons case where the motives are as unclear as the suspects.

My Opinion:
There are things I LOVE about the Nikki Boyd books and then there are things that I don't so much.  And Pursued is no exception. :)  Let me start with the LOVE!  Lisa added so much prayer from Nikki in Pursued and I LOVED IT!!!!   With suspenseful scene after scene I LOVED how Nikki would send up quick prayers along the way!  I actually really love Nikki as a character also, she's unique and interesting!  There were somethings that I thought didn't add up as far as facts and the timeline however and there were sometimes I found myself thinking, "wait that's doesn't make sense" or "come on guys [talking to the characters, you know you do it to ;) ] you know what's going on.  Stop asking silly questions.".  There were also some sense that were a tad too long for me; I found my mind wandering.  BUT Nikki's personal mystery, you know the one that got her into law enforcement, about her sister's case are the parts that keep me going, even through the too long scenes!  I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK where, I'm hoping, we finally find out all about Sarah!!!  Overall I think followers of this series will enjoy this one, but I don't think this is a stand alone.
