On Distant Shores Review!!!

On Distant Shores by Sarah Sundin

Book Description:
About On Distant Shores:Caught between the war raging around them and the battles within, two souls long for peace---and a love that remains true.

Lt. Georgiana Taylor has everything she could want. A boyfriend back home, a loving family, and a challenging job as a flight nurse. But in July 1943, Georgie's cozy life gets more complicated when she meets pharmacist Sgt. John Hutchinson.

Hutch resents the lack of respect he gets as a noncommissioned serviceman and hates how the war keeps him from his fiancée. While Georgie and Hutch share a love of the starry night skies over Sicily, their lives back home are falling apart. Can they weather the hurt and betrayal? Or will the pressures of war destroy the fragile connection they've made?

With her signature attention to detail and her talent for bringing characters together, Sarah Sundin weaves an exciting tale of emotion, action, and romance that will leave you wanting more.

My Opinion:
Overall a really great story!!!  I'm not really a fan or reader of World War books.  Neither I or II.  But I was interested in the first book of the series and heard great things about it.  So when I got the chance to read the second in the series I jumped at it.  I'm so happy this is a stand alone and I didn't have to read the first one to go along.  So actually reading about the war was just okay for me, but I ended up falling in love with the characters!  They got me through!  I loved their back stories and the chemistry between them.  The pharmacy aspect also really intrigued me and I wish there had been even more chemicals mixed and medicines made in the book. Especially instead of a few parts where the ancient temples of Greece were mentioned.  That's just not my thing and I thought the book dragged a little in these parts.  However it picked right back up and threw me into the action!  I really liked the length of most of the chapters; not too long but not too short, but in the beginning it felt a little jumpy with place and time, but as I got into the rhythm of the story I enjoyed the pace.  Even though I loved the characters they were at times, frustrating!!!  I wanted them to say, do, or act in a certain way and they just wouldn't! :D  But in the end they just about came to the same conclusion.  The action scenes are really great though sometimes the characters are frustrating.  I loved the twists and surprises in the plot!  After reading On Distant Shores and meeting these characters I MUST READ With Every Letter and I can't wait for more!!!  Over all On Distant shores is filled with great messages, beautiful characters, adventurous and lovely stories, and some twists and surprises to boot!  So if your looking for a romance that's a little bumpy, action that takes you into the sky, humility that grounds the characters, friendships that get ya through, changes that rock your world and shift your dreams, and shows that God will see you through; this is definitely the book for you! :)

* I received this book in exchange for my honest review.  This did not effect my opinion in any way and the above is how I truly feel about On Distant Shores. ~ASC

  1. Amada - thank you for the fun review! I laughed when you said you wanted more of the chemical-mixing scenes! As a pharmacist, I was afraid I'd WAY overdone them due to my inherent interest :)

    1. LOL!!! No, you didn't I wanted more!!! :) I find pharmaceuticals, especially back then, very fascinating! :) I loved when Hutch made aspirin! I also was very interested and shocked to find out how they were treated back then!!! I agree with your husband, and I'm a bit outraged myself! I think the meds. part was my favorite part actually! That and I loved Lucia! ;) I can't wait for your next book (I just KNEW K loved C) and I was hoping the next book would be their story! :D

      Thanks for reading my review!

      Blessings, ASC
